It has been reported that in 2010 Apple file a patent that can disable your iPhone's camera when it detect an infrared light pattern. The technology is designed to prevent people from recording live concerts using their iPhone.
Concert organizers would have to install special infrared lights in their venue that tells the phone it not allowed to record the show. Although all the other features of the phone would still work (e.g. calling, SMS, etc.).
I respect the copyright issues that are at play here, but at the same time I am not happy about a phone feature forcibly being disabled. What happens if I want to record my friends doing something while at a concert, or record some epic event in the crowd.
This technology will be open for abuse. For example any stores or business can install one of these devices to prevent you from using your phone's camera because they don't like the idea that you can use it to record something while on their property...
