Here are a few tips to save power, and extend battery life:
- One of the big users of power is all the radios modern smartphone have, such as cellular, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. When you're not using these features turn them off. For example, if you don't often use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth disable these features. If you're hiking or in a building and you're out of the range of cellular service, your phone will go into a high power mode to try to find a local cellular tower. To turn off the features:
- Wi-Fi: Under Settings > Wi-Fi, set the switch to the Off position.
- Bluetooth: Under Settings > General > Bluetooth, set the switch to the Off position
- Cellular: Under Settings, set the Airplane Mode switch to the On position
- The second biggest user of battery life is screen, you can try lowering its brightness to see if that can help conserve power.
- Under Settings > Brightness, move the slider to a lower setting to reduce the brightness of the screen
- Disable automatic retrieval of new data from email and calendar.
- Under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Fetch New Data, set the Push switch to the Off position. You can also set the Fetch new data option to Manually
- Turn off Notifications services
- Under Settings > Notifications, set the Notifications switch to the Off position.
- Turn off Locations Services
- Under Settings > Locations Services, set the Locations Services switch to the Off position.
- Force the screen to Auto-Lock faster
- Under Settings > General > Auto-Lock, change the amount of time (1-5 minutes) before the screen automatically locks and turn off.
If these tricks are not helping extend your battery life, try:
- Closing all open applications.
- Rebooting the phone .
- Update to the latest firmware.
If all elses fails, take it to a local Apple Store (if available) and get the battery analysed and possibly replaced (see article here, if the phone is out of warranty Apple charges for this service) or check the following site and buy an iPhone battery extender:
If you're really adventurous, you can try replacing the battery yourself (article [Warning: by following the tips in the linked article you can void your warranty and break your phone if you don't know what you're doing. Apple specifically designs their products not to be user serviceable]).
